The next morning we drove forty minutes to Oatman, Arizona. Oatman was once a prosperous mining area where they struck millions of dollars worth of gold in 1915. Now it is a ghost town and small tourist stop. I must say, it was mighty adorable and we had a blast. The current residents are a hoot and Jason describes them as, "the real deal." There was a few little shops with great antiques and small nick-knacks but the best part was the wild burros! They were all over the street and being very used to visitors we were able to feed and touch them. A few were just babies as young as three days old. Apparently the donkeys descended from pack animals turned loose by early prospectors.
Before heading back to California on Sunday we spent the morning playing at the beach in a state park alongside the Colorado River back in Laughlin. Of course, the kids had fun digging in the sand and feeding the ducks while us parents got to picnic and chat.
