Crazy enough, the day after our river cruise John McAfee's home (pictured below) which we went by via boat burnt down! American McAfee has quite the history and scandal in Belize. Story here.

Belize Day Five
Day five we had a LONG day with a beautiful river cruise and visit to the Mayan ruins of Lamanai. We started by taking our little plane back to the mainland of Belize city, followed by an hour drive to the river. On the river we were fortunate enough to see multiple bird species, monkeys and even crocodiles! While the riverside is now green with vegetation, at one time it was open and occupied by Mayan communities leading up to the great city of Lamanai where we arrived an hour or so later. The ruins were majestic and Aiden loved climbing them. For lunch we were treated to a homemade Belizean feast cooked by our tour guide's mother, it was delicious! We also purchased some delicious roadside cashews, seasoned oranges and fresh mangos, again, delicious! Then back down the river, through town, on the plane and a water taxi back to the hotel we went... while we thoroughly enjoyed seeing the jungle and history of Belize it was a very long, very HOT day. So much so, poor Alexander suffered from heat exhaustion with vomiting and hives. We felt pretty guilty and disturbed by this but he recovered quickly and was himself the next morning.
