Today, Tuesday, March 16 was our first appointment with Dr. De La Pena and we liked him and his staff very much. We spent about an hour in the office checking general health, drawing blood and so forth.
The most emotional and thrilling part of the appointment was our first ultrasound!! Everything looked normal and healthy. It was absolutely amazing to hear his or her little heart beat and watch it flicker on the screen. We could see the head, arms and legs protruding from the body. He or she was even dancing around and moving for us a bit. Dr. De La Pena said the heart rate was on the higher side of healthy and that oldwives tale suggests females tend to have higher heart rates then males. Maybe this means Baby Darlington is a girl???!? We do want to find out the sex of the baby, so only time will tell if the tale is true!
The only surprise of the day was that we are actually further along than expected. We thought we were 7 weeks and 4 days (due October 29th) but the ultrasound showed that we are now 8 weeks and 5 days pregnant with a due date of October 21, 2010!! Jason’s birthday is October 25th; maybe baby and Daddy will share birthdays?!
