We first flew to Minnesota to drop the kids off with my parents. While we were there we took a day to celebrate Alexander and Calvin's (his cousin just nine days older) second birthday. Birthday post to come!
From Minnesota we flew (first class, a HUGE treat) to London. We had a blast in London but have to admit we were a bit jet lagged. We were there three days and managed to squeeze in the Tower of London, the West Bank, Ben Big and House of Parliament, Westminster, the War Rooms, Hyde Park, the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace and even a few naps! We also were able to meet up with my old friend, Fleur, who I have many fond memories with during the summer of 2003 that I lived in London.
Next we flew from London to Dublin. There we were also able to see a remarkable amount of sights in just one day; Trinity College and the Book of Kells, local churches and landmarks and of course the Guinness Factory. For me, the highlight of Dublin was most certainly our dinner that evening. We attended a folklore and fairytale super at Dublin's oldest pub, The Brazen Head. We had delicious traditional food, live music and listened to stories about the history and traditions of the Irish people. It was lovely and set the tone for the remainder of our stay in Ireland.
We only spend 24 hours in Dublin (which was enough for me) before driving our rental car (an experience in itself) across country to Clare. The drive was beautiful passing by farms, green pastures and castle ruins.
Our destination was the Cliffs of Moher. They were stunning.
We wrapped up our trip with two relaxing nights at the Dromoland Castle. Jason and I will both agree Dromoland was the highlight of our entire stay. We felt completely spoiled. We spent a lot of time relaxing after intense sightseeing; sleeping, exploring the grounds, sleeping, taking archery lessons, sleeping and dining in their lavish restaurant.
It was a wonderful time. I feel very lucky to have been able to take this trip and spend alone time with my husband. As parents of young children, it is not often we are able to solely focus on each other. So a BIG THANK YOU to my own parents who watched the boys for an entire week. Which, who by the way, when we returned to Minnesota to pick them up didn't want to come home with us!! Now, a few weeks later, Aiden still tells me his misses them everyday. Alexander however, didn't realize he missed US until we got home and has become a bit clingy and won't let me out of his sight. Until next time!
